Foundry Athletic's state of the art ‘Recovery Zone’

RECOVERY ZONE

Recovery is an essential part of athletic performance.

A beautifully crafted, boutique space offering multiple recovery modalities to assist your preparation week to week. The perfect place to recover, relax and unwind.

The Recovery Zone at Foundry Athletic delivers multiple recovery modalities to ensure you will be at the top of your game and ready to perform.

Active recovery increases circulation, which in turn helps remove metabolic waste products from the muscle that has been broken down by intense exercise and competition.

This enhanced blood flow then ensures nutrients are delivered to help repair, rejuvenate and rebuild muscle tissue, tendons and ligaments.

HOW RECOVERY WORKS

INFRARED SAUNAS

There’s nothing quite like a 20-minute sweat session in a sauna. You feel more relaxed and rested after you’re done, and the heat helps relieve sore muscles and improves your overall health and well-being. Unlike a traditional sauna, infrared saunas don’t heat the air around you. Instead, they use infrared lamps to warm your body directly.

The infrared panels are more effective at warming the body, heating your body before heating up the air like a traditional sauna.

The benefits of having an infrared sauna include:

  • Improved sleep

  • Relaxation

  • Faster recovery from muscle soreness

  • Improved blood flow and nutrient transport

  • Relief from joint pan

  • Improved flexibility and range of movement

The game ready cold and compression unit integrates two proven therapies to optimize your recovery and reduce soreness, inflammation and swelling sooner.

How it works: Once you have placed a compression garment on the affected part of your body, the game ready rapidly circulates ice water continuously, consistently and comfortably cooling the affected site and improving circulation to reduce swelling, muscle spasms and pain. These therapies combined will assist you to get back to performance sooner.

COLD PLUNGE POOL/ICE BATH

From immunity optimisation to muscle recovery, there are numerous reasons to take regular ice baths. Here’s what happens when you brave the cold:

Your Blood Vessels Constrict:  Lactic acid and other chemicals are flushed from your muscles, reducing post-exercise inflammation.

Brown Fat is Activated: White fat is converted into brown fat, prompting energy expenditure and weight loss.

The Vagus Nerve is Stimulated: This signals your body to destress, relax, and build mental resilience.

Dopamine is Released: A quick ice bath is all it takes to help you feel more inspired, energised, and happy.

Your Core Temperature Cools: Cold plunges help to reduce high body temperature from sports or other physical exertion.

The Immune System is Supported: White and red blood cell counts have been shown to increase in those who are regularly submerged in cold water

HOT PLUNGE POOL

Hot baths tend to mimic the effects of the frosty variety, though through different mechanisms. When taking a warm dip:

Your Blood Vessels Dilate:  By dilating blood vessels, hot baths encourage blood flow to the muscles. This supplies them with vital nutrients and oxygen needed to repair.

The Nervous System is Relaxed: Using a hot plunge may have as much of an impact on your mental state as exercise, with one study claiming that bathing just twice a week produces a “moderate but persistent” mood lift.

Your Sleep Improves: Vital to a healthy mind is healthy sleep, and hot baths have been shown to induce just that by modulating the circadian rhythm.

Your Blood Pressure Falls: A natural consequence of dilated blood vessels is a drop in blood pressure. This can help slash the risk of heart attack or stroke by as much as 60 percent.

Your Brain Gets a Boost:  Hot water immersion has been demonstrated to increase a brain chemical called brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), while simultaneously reducing the stress hormone cortisol.

Your flexibility and range of motion improve: warmed muscles become more flexible, leaving you to feel relaxed and loose.

Contrast therapy involves a series of alternating immersions in cold and warm water. It assists in improving circulation, the removal of muscle and metabolic waste products, pain relief and loosening stiff muscles. It’s believed that contrasting temperatures improve blood circulation and oxygenation, and in doing so, relieve pain, loosen stiff muscles, and stem inflammation
